SUMMARY:West Granville Cemetery Tour
DESCRIPTION:Date: Saturday\, June 6\, 2026\nTime: 10:00 a.m.\nLocation: West Granville Cemetery 6815 N. 107th Street\, Milwaukee\, Wis.\nPresenter: Jim Moeller\nDescription: West Granville Cemetery is one of Milwaukee County’s oldest burial grounds\, with the first burial taking place in 1844. The location of the cemetery was a deciding factor in the founding of one of the oldest Christian congregations in Milwaukee County. The Evangelical and Reformed Church of Granville\, founded on December 25\, 1847\, was directly south of the cemetery. Today that church is Salem Landmark Church located across the street from the cemetery. The Salem Landmark Church\, built in 1863 which served the congregation until 1977\, is today a museum for the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod. \nThis year’s tour highlights some of the pioneer families who shaped Granville Township\, including the Everts Family\, who gave Granville its name\, and the Pfeil family\, whose lives reflect the challenges and opportunities of the early settlers in the Wisconsin wilderness. \nPlease meet at the main cemetery entrance at 6815 N. 107th Street (one block south of 107th Street and Fond du Lac Avenue). Parking is available across the street at the historic Salem Landmark Church and WELS Museum. \nThe tour will be conducted by Jim Moeller\, a descendant of the Salem congregation with several generations of relatives buried at West Granville. A retired WELS educator and principal of 44 years\, Jim enjoys sharing the rich history of the Granville Township settlers.
